Shehu Sani, a former senator representing Kaduna central, has appealed to  President Muhammadu Buhari to name the train station in Kaduna after Nigeria’s first female combat helicopter pilot, Tolulope Arotile, who was murdered by a moving car.

Naija news learnt that the former lawmaker made the request via his twitter handle in a reaction to the decision of the federal government to rename of several train stations after many “prominent Nigerians”.

Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, disclosed this in a statement released by the ministry’s Director of Press, Eric Ojiekwe. The statement noted that the deserving citizens have contributed to the progress and development of their respective communities and the nation at large.

According to the statement, the Apapa station was named after Bola Ahmed Tinubu, while the Agege station was named after the Minister of Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola. Other personalities conferred with train station names include Lateef Jakande (Agbado station), Vice President Yemi Osinbajo (Kajola station), and Funmilayo Ransome-Kuti (Papalanto station).’

However, Naija News learnt Funmilayo Ransome-Kuti was the only woman honoured in the list released by Federal Government

Born in Abeokuta, Ogun state, where the Papalanto railway station named after her is, the late Ransome-Kuti was a renowned educator, political campaigner and women’s rights activist. She is the mother of Fela Kuti, Afro Beat mastero and Olikoye Ransome-Kuti, former health minister.
